"Heavenly Bells"
- The Belleplate Group.
Annual Report 2002
A Heavenly Year
Belleplates are a low cost alternative to traditional handbells. Our parish
has a set which are played by a regular team. They are known as the "Heavenly
Bells". Occasional other groups such as on the Parish Holiday to Whitby
also make enjoyable use of them.
It has been a good year for
the Heavenly Bells. The team has gone from strength to strength playing
a wide variety of music for both social occasions and church services.
The highlight of the year was the Starlight Carol Concert at Christ the
King. Not only did the main team performed but also a team of new comers
who only learnt to play the day before and a team of older players who
learnt to play a piece by heart and performed without music in front of
them.
We practice Friday evenings
at Christ the King. The times are 5p.m. until 5:45p.m. for the young group
and 5:45p.m. until 6:30p.m. for the older group. I am assisted by Jean
Archer and Kate Cope without whom we would never perfect a piece.
In the next year we would like
to invite new members, especially any interested adults. We would also
like to buy a new larger set of bells to increase the range of music we
can play - at the moment we have no sharps/flats (black notes!). - but
this would require around £500 and comes as a complete new set,
not an add on. Finally we are looking for someone who would be interested
in help Jean, Kate and I to write out the music as this takes a lot of
time. That person needs basic understanding of musical notation and the
ability to use coloured felt tip pens!
If you are interested in joining
or inviting us to play for you then please contact one of me. Thank you
to all the team and for you, our audience.
