Thursday Club

Another successful and varied year for the Thursday Club. Old favourites have remained such as the barbecue, Christmas Dinner, bingo and beetle, together with talks and outings, all generally very well supported.

The year started with a visit to a live recording of the Gloria Hunniford show - something a bit different. Later on in the year we were able to organise our delayed visit to Hatfield House and St John's, Hatfield (put off from the previous year due to the foot and mouth epidemic). A very good day was had by all, and it was very pleasant to see Jeremy again, well settled in his new parish but with as good an appetite as ever!

Our summer outing was to Southend - traditional seaside entertainment. Some of our young people were able to come on this trip, as it was at the start of the school holidays. The Thursday Club appeals to all ages!

Other events have been visits to Norwich Cathedral and the Hindu Temple at Neasden, and a most interesting talk by Margaret Ashby on the Six Hills Nurseries. We discovered that there is a plant named after Stevenage, and a number of other connections with our town in the plant world. Even the non-gardeners amongst us found the talk fascinating.

As always, thanks to all those who have given of their time and energies to enable the Thursday Club to have such a varied programme. We look forward to the next year.
