25+ GROUP A Sample of 2003/2004The meal at the Jade Palace, Middle Row on 26th February, was the third 25+ dinner I’ve been to, and each one very enjoyable. Clive Bell had arranged everything, so there was a long table already prepared for us. Obviously, we did not all arrive together - a muddle for some about which bus to catch - but it all ended happily, and a good time was had by all! There were fifteen of us so, for convenience of ordering and serving, we divided ourselves into two groups. Each group had paper to write down choices from four courses! Lee Slater was our scribe, and very patiently and efficiently wrote down whatever we decided. However, one dish which puzzled all of us was lamb cooked in coffee! We ordered one out of curiosity, and I thought it was delicious, but couldn’t really taste the coffee, although Christine Reddish thought she could. Our group decided the dish was a winner, but some faces were expressing dislike in the other group. Everyone was satisfied with the meal, and the finger bowls with water and lemon slices were well used, as fingers were made before chop sticks, although forks were provided. As I’m sure you can imagine, there was much laughter, and it really is a good way to meet others from our churches. I can certainly say ‘a good time was had by all’, so why not give it a go, and join us next time to find out what you’ve been missing? Remember, you cannot be too old to join in, only too young!! Here’s to seeing you at the next 25+ dining group. Oh yes, a very important tailpiece - our grateful thanks to Clive for organizing everything and dealing with the bill at the end. No he didn’t pay personally -we all gave him the money we owed - but he had the task of working it all out! Kate Cope |
