HOLY TRINITY PARISH CHURCH CHOIRMembers of your choir continue to contribute to the musical aspects of worship at Holy Trinity and have welcomed new recruits. We were particularly gratified that the Parochial Church Council agreed to purchase robes for new adult choristers and for junior members who have either grown out of their present outfits or who have had to share. We now have enough to cater for present needs and have a small stock of spares so new recruits can be accommodated. Many thanks. We are aware that increased demands are being placed on church resources and are willing to take our share in the responsibility for balancing the books. We have already contributed in the form of wedding fees and had agreed to sing at a special carol service which was to have been held for a Stevenage company willing to pay a fee for the privilege. It was disappointing that this service did not happen but we were pleased to hear that Revd. Tickner's efforts resulted in the firm giving the church a modest contribution anyway. No doubt there will be further opportunities to make contributions of this kind during 2004. We have one or two ideas in our surplice sleeves! We were flattered to receive congratulations from many in the congregation for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols just before Christmas. Many thanks to all who took part, especially Revd. Tickner and Revd. Pentelow The annual concert in aid of the Friends of Holy Trinity has taken place with the choir contributing a selection of sacred and secular items. Our numbers (and our quality!) was improved by the presence of Revd. Pentelow. The timing of this concert so soon after Christmas - with some members busy with music for other organisations - has been a cause for concern. We are in touch with both the Friends and our friends at the Lydian Palm Court Trio to find a more convenient time of the year for this annual event. Many of our senior members sing regularly with other musical groups in the town and the district, making attendance at practice and on Sunday an occasional problem. As a consequence, it is not always possible to field a complete 'team' though on most occasions we have present representatives of all four voice groups. We are very grateful to a number of deputies who fill in during times of need and often at short notice. If anyone wants to be a deputy - or a full-time member for that matter - please let choir director Catherine Smith or senior chorister Colin Lee know and we will arrange a short voice test to see where you would fit in. Our current line-up is: Choir director and organist: Catherine Smith. Sopranos: Sheila Davies, Sheila Soothill, Virginia Cole, Beverley Bungay, Rachel Smith, Linda Amey Contraltos: Jean Archer, Pam Hunter, Jess Lancaster (on maternity leave!), June Skuse Tenors: Colin Lee (senior chorister), Philip Day, Mark Smith, Colin Skuse Basses: Paul Davies (treasurer), Bob Sage, Rodney Cole Juniors: Phillip Rowland-Morris, Gemma Davies, Mike Bungay, Mark Risley, Alexandra Busby Holy Trinity is one of a dwindling number of Anglican churches able to field a four-part robed choir every Sunday. With your continued help, support and prayers we intend to continue to grow and develop. Colin Lee
