ServersServing at the altar is a wonderful experience and a privilege. We currently have 19 trained servers for the 9.30 am Eucharist with 5 covering the 8.00 am service and two for 6.30 Evensong. I find it particularly fulfilling when I have the privilege of training a new server and this year has been a very busy one. We welcomed Nicole Apthorpe, Mark Risley, Chris Davies, Jan Wilson and Gill Rowlands. I would like to thank them and all the servers, particularly over the Easter and Christmas periods. We are able to support a full team of servers for all the additional services. Thank You. The role of a server is to lead the choir and clergy in procession and to assist the president and deacon in the smooth running of Eucharistic services. During training I describe serving as a cross between military precision, drama and dance, adding just that little bit of ceremony sufficient to enhance the worship, all to the glory of God. New servers are always welcomed so if you would like to become a server please let me know.Geoff Withers |
